The regret of the explorer Yu Chunshun's ideal of walking alone to visit China

2021-04-25

Yu Chunshun, Shanghai native, explorer. July 1st, 1988 began to "walk alone to visit China." He died in Lop Nur in June 1996.

Of the six expeditions to be completed by Yu Chunshun, three are directly related to ethnic minorities or ethnic areas. Yu Chunshun wanted to be the first person in the history of China to visit 55 ethnic minorities. Unfortunately, he only visited 33 ethnic minorities and he rested in the sandy sea of Lop Nor. In commemoration of the hero who dedicated her "Zenda to her parents" to the gratitude and remembrance of the poet and explorer who had deep feelings for the minorities, we edited this article according to Yu Chunshun's diary and speech.

The sky did not leave traces but the birds had already flown

- Yu Chunshun

First, a state of dedication to parents

The 6 tasks I want to accomplish

In June 1988, at an ordinary literary salon in Shanghai, a young intellectual stated that he would read China's "big book" in the not-too-distant future: a country is like a "big book." Throughout the ages, many people with lofty ideals have dreamed of reading this “big book” and looking at the wonderful contents of each page in the middle. For example, Xu Xiake of the Ming Dynasty walked half a China and wrote “Xu Xiake’s Travels”; like Zhang Qian of the Han Dynasty. In the Western Regions, the Silk Road was opened; like Tang Xuanzong, in order to retrieve the Scriptures, he arrived in India from the then capital Chang'an. So far, no Chinese has completely read every page of this "big book."

From July 1st, 1988, I put the idea of reading this "big book" on the agenda. I used the title of "walking alone to visit the whole country." This way. I will now introduce to my friends the goals to be completed and the extent to which they will be completed.

First, I have to walk through China's 31 provinces, cities and autonomous regions on foot in the middle of 1989. The specific approach is: First finish the mainland and finally visit Taiwan. In fact, I have gone to most parts of our country, and most of these places are more difficult and more dangerous, such as Gansu, Inner Mongolia, Qinghai, and Western Sichuan, especially Xinjiang and Tibet. Tibet has successfully come out. Then, the remaining provinces of South China are better off. South China can whistle all the way to go, where at least the natural environment is no danger to me.

The second task that I want to accomplish is to become the first person in our country’s history to visit 55 ethnic minorities without fail. Our country is a large family of 56 people living in harmony. Until now, I have visited the Korean, Manchu, Daur, Oroqen, Ewenki, Hezhe and Mongolian, Tibetan, Uygur, Tajik, Kazakh, etc. Waiting for a total of more than 30 ethnic minorities. Of course, one of the last ethnic minorities visited was in Taiwan, the Gaoshan people.

The third task is to hike to reach the easternmost, the westernmost, the northernmost, and the southernmost of our country. On February 25, 1989, I had reached the easternmost point of the territory of China. It was Wusu Town in Fuyuan County, Heilongjiang Province. The place is very beautiful. It is the place where the Heilongjiang River and the Ussuri River meet. The Hezhen people live in that place. There is a song called “Ussuri Boat Song” that sings that place. The earliest place where our motherland could see the sun rise is in Wusu. Its place is also rich in salmon. I successfully arrived in the northernmost part of China, Mohe Village (also called Arctic Village) in Mohe Township, Heilongjiang Province, on June 20, 1989. In addition, after my visit to the Pamirs in southern Xinjiang, I went to Hong Qila’s “country gate” and was also the most western place in China. That year, the great traveler, explorer Marco Polo, and Tang Xuanxi’s Tang Dynasty went west. India has passed this mountain pass. In August last year, I also stood on this mountain pass. The southernmost point of course is on some of the reefs in the South China Sea. If there were no naval supplemental vessels to send me to, I would put the southern tip of the ship on the southern tip of Sanya City in Hainan Province. There is a rock on the seashore of Sanya City. 4 characters: Tianya Haijiao.

The fourth goal has international significance: The total mileage of my walk to visit China should reach 100,000 to 120,000 wales. Why do we have such a data? Because the world’s most far gone is Mr. Thomas of Argentina. He walked 96,000 kilolitres, and I naturally surpassed him. I think that the best people in the world who go farthest are the Chinese. This "record-breaking" task is accomplished by me. If all goes well, the world record will be rewritten in the near future and Yu Chunshun's name will be written.

The fifth task is also of international significance. After mankind took down the north and south poles, it was up to me to walk down the "third pole of the world." The entire Tibet is more than 4,000 meters above sea level. Like the New Tibet Highway and the Qinghai-Tibet Highway, the average elevation is above 5,000 meters. In medical practice, there are such regulations: An altitude of 4,000 meters or more is a place where human beings cannot permanently live, and a 5,000-meter-plus area is a restricted life area. More than 4,000 meters above sea level is also known as the "snow line", the snow will never be converted, the summer is not the same, the air is only half of the plain, where if you do not use the pressure cooker to boil water, as long as 76 °C opened. If I want to complete the goal of conquering the “third pole of the world”, we must step down the five “Scorpio” highways. This is a very important task in my “visiting all China” and it will take one and a half years or 2 Years to complete this task. On April 13, 1991, from Chengdu to July 22, I drove the Sichuan-Tibet Road through a full hundred days. During this time, I encountered a rare flash flood and mudslide in a hundred years. At that time, 11 people died. When I took a new road to Tibet, two people died there. From August 1 to October 20, 1991, I took the Qingzang Road for 80 days; I overcame Tanggula Mountain, which is 5,231 meters above sea level in the “life-restricted area,” and then passed Qilian Mountain and passed through the Gobi Desert to Xinjiang. On March 14, 1992, I set out from the gate of the Urumqi Xinjiang Institute of Education to enter Tibet in the summer and walk along the highway between Taklamakan and the Gobi Desert.

The sixth task is comprehensive. While I was walking, I collected all kinds of information, including the customs, traditions, and styles of the peoples of various regions, especially since the reform and opening up. After the collection, coupled with his own feelings in the process of taking China, he wrote it as a reflection of China's contemporary style of "Yu Chun-shun travel." Of course you need to take pictures and take lots of pictures. I have published more than 400,000 words and many photographs in the newspapers and magazines of Hong Kong’s “China Tourism”, Shanghai’s “Liberation Daily”, “Student Knowledge News” and “Girlfriend” magazine. It's enough for me to write a lifetime.

Process and results

I don't need any results. I think the best result is in the course of my "visiting all China" move. I have got "results" in this process. Life is a process, and the result is not important. As we all know, we are on the way back. When did we come here? The nakedness comes. This is also the way to go when you go. That is, "there is nothing more than the earth," and it is your territory. You are sleeping in an area as large as you are in the evening; that is, "the world's delicacies," invite you to eat, and you will have a mouthful. belly. You have all the dreams of the world. You can only experience life and feel life in such a life span of several decades. So I realized a truth: I don’t care about my “results”, but rather attach great importance to my “process”. If I want to say the result, I can cover it with the phrase “no traces left in the sky, but the birds have already flown over”. It does not mean that Yu Chunshun completed China, and China immediately "four modernizes." However, it should be said that taking China is an unusual thing, and it is not a very easy thing to do. You say what effect it has and what results it produces. It doesn't necessarily have to be said, but it can also be said that what I said is that "the sky has left no trace, Uruguay has passed," and that is enough.

Tears of men

To be honest, I have flowed tears many times. Someone said: "The man has tears and he doesn't flick, but he hasn't reached the point of his sadness." Especially he doesn't cry in front of the girls. Sometimes it is to see the tragic nature of nature, the atmosphere of the prehistoric era, I was moved to tears. I am very fond of nature's beautiful things. When I walked on the Tibetan plateau and saw the Tibetan people living in such a difficult place, I cried. Once a night at night, I came out from an army early in the morning and saw an old Tibetan grandmother stepping out of her low tent and bending over to step toward the yak herd, possibly to milk the milk.

I saw this scene at the time and cried. why? I think this is too difficult. One night I lived in the reinforced concrete house of the military station. I still heard the whistling sounds and wolf calls from the outside. I would also like to think of the Tibetan people living there from generation to generation. I will also cry. When I climbed over Tanggula Mountain and left only the last 50 meters, 40 meters, 10 meters, and 5 meters, I had already burst into tears. Because I used to know that the top of Tanggula is probably a risk that I can't pass. If I can successfully climb over, I will succeed.

In the moment I fell

When I was in Mudanjiang in Heilongjiang, there was a grassroots Communist Youth League secretary who asked me to visit his family. When he was eating, he said mysteriously: “Yu, I’ll ask you a question, when you’re in distress, there are still a few minutes What will I do when I'm in life?” I said I’d take out a few words from my notebook and tell me my parents wouldn’t use it to collect the corpses. I’m a plain man on the field and don’t care to bring home his own stinky sac. All places can be buried with loyal bones, the same. Later, he said, "If you fall for a second or two, what do you think in your head?" I answered without hesitation: "In the moment I fall, my head and my hand will point to the East. Why do you point to the East? Because I ended up in Taiwan and Taiwan is in the east of China. My hometown and my Shanghai are also in the east of China. Therefore, the last moment that I fell down will definitely point me very tenaciously to the East. .

II. Ethnic minorities visited by Yu Chunshun

The first ethnic autonomous prefecture

November 8, 1988

In the morning, before being on the road, at the request of the manager of the former Brigade station at Laotougou station, they took a group photo together before the station, and at 8:40 pm they went to the old head post office to postmark it and then marched to Yanji city. Yanji is 68 miles away from Laotougou and is full of asphalt roads of a flat plain. At 0105 hours, they arrived at Tongfosi Township, Longjing County. At 0340, the Chaoyang River in Longjing City received a postmark and arrived at Yanji City, Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, at 6:15 that evening. This is the first ethnic minority autonomous prefecture I have visited since my departure.

Oroqen people

May 4, 1989

There are 42 Oroqen ethnic groups in Xinxing Township, and the rest are Han Chinese. Half of the children have been hunted and semi-agriculture. Although there are black bears, dragons (Mooses), pheasants, wild pheasants, and wild deer in the mountains, the number is small.

In the evening, the Mayor of the village invited me to the home of the emerging police station director Ge Jinhai and his wife Du Xiaolan (both husband and wife of the Oroqen ethnic group). This is my first visit to the Oroqen family. The couple treated them with gracious hospitality. The dish is characterized by the Oroqen ethnic group - Liu Artha Decoction. This dish is full of mountains and plains everywhere. It can make fire, swelling, and inflammation. It is deeply loved by the Oroqen people who used to eat mainly meat. The custom of eating meat and making willow bud soup is not a hunting season when I go, so I can't eat it with my hands. The couple listened to me and sang, “The high Xing’an Mountains, a large forest, the courageous Oroqen in the forest, a horse and a horse, a gun, a mountain wild dog, a wild deer, and a fight. After playing the song, I used Elunchun to repeat it for me.

May 5, 1989

In the outskirts of the emerging village, I saw a horse on the Oroqen horse driving a group of galloping horses and quickly taking this shot. See also the four Oroqen teenagers (two men and two women) who came slowly on three horses and waited for them to come close to me and took this shot. Then he stood still for a long time and watched as the four young men rode away. At this time there were blue sky and white clouds, and there was an endless field. The background was the mountains. I was stunned. The fourth boy also greeted me and asked me where to come from? Where to go? A magnificent pastoral style painting! I have always waited until they disappear into the distant place where heaven and earth meet, and only then continue to advance. This scene is invisible in my hometown and south.

See the top yurt and Ewenki herdsmen

August 2, 1989

The weather was very hot today. When I reached 87 kilometers, I saw a yurt that I had seen for the first time in my life. It is located on the road on the left side of the road about 400 meters away from me. The top of the yurt is glowing with white light. My heart suddenly surprises me. This is where the real scenery of the prairie is. Immediately afterwards, more yurts came out and scattered scattered deep in the grasslands. On the hillside and on the grassland, there appeared a large group of three hippos, three river cows, goats, and sheep. The Ewenki herdsmen rode the herds immediately and they could only see the pictures in the movies. Now I see them on the ground.

At 2 o'clock in the afternoon, thirsty and hungry, he rushed to the "71-kilometer place" and heard a small store. He went inside and asked for a bottle of beer and biscuits. The biscuits couldn't eat and he retreated. He only ate "liquid bread." At this time a Mongolian old man came in and looked exhausted. He sat in the store for a while and asked if he could buy anything. He hesitated for a long time and went out. Some people in Mongolian he said understood and said he had no money. But I did not eat or drink water for a day. When I looked at the edge of my heart, I stopped him and gave him a few dollars to buy two bottles of tablet wine, a bag of biscuits, a box of cigarettes and matches. The old man did not resign and nodded to me and said a few Mongolians. Then you can eat it. The Mongolian people are like this: it is common for people in the walkways to be helped by others. This is also true for others who come to his yurts, so they generally do not express their gratitude. Unlike some of us who do something “good things”, we feel that we are a “savior”. The Sichuan women called the Mongolian elderly to remember this "bene man." I said: There is no need to be the same person as the walker. Everyone has a problem when he goes out. In the past year or so, have I been helped by others? ! Over the past year or so, I was too aware of the hardships of walkers on the road. In my future life journey, whatever is the difficulty of encountering people in the walkway, even if I have a gimmick beside me, I will give it to half of the others.
